The Arnold Arboretum of Harvard University

Jamaica Plain, Ma

Primary Group received the Massachusetts Preservation Alliance Award for this work.

Harvard University commissioned Primary Group to complete the renovation of this historic landmark, comprised of two structures built in 1892 and 1913 respectively by the famous Boston architect, Longfellow.

The renovation includes historic restoration, architectural programming and interior architecture for the reorganization of the Arboretum’s various program and administrative needs. The interior space includes public and office space, a rare book library, laboratory an herbarium and exhibit areas. While accomplished within a modest budget, the design also addresses life safety, accessibility, code and building systems issues.
