Boston Specialty and Rehabilitation Hospital

Boston Redevelopment Authority commissioned Primary Group to prepare a feasibility study for a 51.5 acre urban site. The former state hospital site currently contains 17 buildings housing a variety of clinical and social service functions. Primary Group was charged with evaluating the feasibility of accommodating over 100 units of affordable assisted living housing on the property and identifying additional developable parcels. The study proposes the development of a new hospital campus, with non-developable parcels located off site, and the urban parkland integrated into the parcel as preserved open space. The new plan makes it possible to successfully combine a variety of activity zones, with functional zones separated by green space.
