The Neighborhood House Charter School
is one of Boston’s most successful independent schools, and
the school’s success led to outgrowing their home in St. Mark’s
School. Present and future needs were met by renovating the adjoining
14,000 sf. convent structure and building a 17,000 sf.addition.
By placing the gymnasium/ multipurpose room at the entry to the
site, as a symbolic and functional meeting area for the school and
the community, the emphasis of the new construction was placed on
serving the needs of the neighborhood. A courtyard, comprised of
support spaces and specialty classrooms, is created by the new addition.
The Neighborhood House Charter School has maintained their rich
heritage while incorporating changes supporting their future partnership
with the community they serve.
