As the first new building in Dudley
Square in 20 years, this unique institutional structure creates
a new city center by defining a two-block plaza while fitting into
an existing commercial/residential neighborhood. The 40,000 sf facility
features a dramatic atrium entrance comprised of postal retail and
public spaces. Fixed mechanization, staff offices, and parking for
postal vehicles, staff and patrons were also part of the design.
Issues of scale and context, as well as complex site planning issues
all played a major role in the design. Primary Group also conducted
the community review and presentation process for the USPS.
