We have worked closely with the
City of Boston Department of Neighborhood Development to complete
a study of the Dudley Municipal Center. This complex combines a
Library, Police Station and Courthouse to form a core government
center that is the focus of the community. Community contribution
in combination with ideas generated by our firm have resulted in
"revitalizing" an antiquated identity and interface with
the community through the introduction of a Winter Garden. This
four-season amenity will draw the community together and humanize
the intimidating, fortress-like civic context of the buildings.
The Winter Garden also provides an opportunity to create an informal
interface between the police and the community. The "Winter
Garden" concept is made economically viable through a Master
Lease agreement. Smaller retailers - including pushcarts - will
pay rent for the opportunity to profile their good and services.
Coffee shops, magaine stores and other service retailers will be
introduced.
