| Williams College commissioned Primary
Group to renovate two of its historically significant building:
the Wood House Dormitory (above) and the West College Building (left).
Code requirements mandated enclosure of the Wood House Dormitory's three-level grand staircase. Primary Group responded to the challenge by designing glazed enclosure walls that enhance the existing architecture. A series of other building modifications made Wood House more consistent with present user requirements. The renovations of the West College Dormitory, one of the most revered buildings on the picturesque Williams campus, sparked heated debate. Primary Group worked with college and student groups to develop a plan that refined interior layouts to make them more consistent with the present users, as well as, the exterior facade. The new plan enlarges the entrance hall and upgrades the facility without reducing the bed count. |
